For the DIL who is just learning to sew. She has my little janome and I bought her some good scissors and needles and I made her a pincushion...all for mother's day.
It's the pattern that came in my Sweetwater box. Denim and a scrap of one of my favorite fabrics and the last of the twill tape. I am pretty sure I like hers better than I do mine. LOL

Itty Bitty Biscornu
A biscornu is a small, 8-sided, stuffed ornamental pincushion, usually made out of Aida cloth or linen. Embroidery or cross-stitch is used to decorate the top and bottom of the cushion. A button is typically secured in the center of the cushion to give a small depression on the top. Beads, tassels and other objects can decorate the biscornu. They are typically able to fit in the palm of your hand. The name is derived from a French adjective, meaning skewed, quirky or irregular.
Well, skewed, quirky and definitely irregular......that is my biscornu. lol
I used 2.5" squares from the 'old glory' collection and some antique shell buttons.
things I learned:
When sewing this small, mark all sewing lines
hand sewing is your friend, although I did use the machine
fiddle and make the stuffing a little more even on the "hand close" side
enjoy the wonkiness
There a lots of free tutorials and patterns online....just type in b i s c o r n u.
I made this is less than thirty minutes from...."hey, I could do that" to posting a pic. If I can, you can...trust me! Speedy is not my middle name.
Happy sewing!

PIN-IT! BLOG HOP - - -TODAY!
Today is the start of of the Pin-It! Blog Hop........those who have a love of pincushions are sharing our creations. Some simple (like mine) and I am sure there will be over achievers galore! I can't wait to go and look!
Thanks to Mdm Samm and our cheerleader Kristen @ Meadowbrook for hosting such a fun hop!
I am been overloaded with activity so my contribution is simple, multiple, quick & easy and I really like them!
I started with some tea light holders that got ruined while I removed the price tags....who knew the color was painted on and not in the glass? Really?
You burn things in them..hheeellooooooooo
I picked some cute fabrics and made little balls of fiberfill and glued away.....regular glue, not hot and this is what I got.................
I used linen and free-handed some embroidery.....a 1.5" circle is all I had to work with
The whole kit and kaboodle!
Go and visit all the other hoppers....I am sure you will be totally delighted with their creations! I'm going now!

When bad things happen to.................
good tealight holders.......
I tried taking the sticky tags off as gently as possible and it appears that the glass is painted and not colored through and through. * big sigh*
Stay tuned to see how I turn this batch of "lemons" into "lemonade"

Tiny Stitches
I have always appreciated the skill and patience required to work in miniature. It's amazing, to me, how people can get such precise details in such a small work area.
After working on something mini myself, my appreciation is even greater. My project, for an up coming blog hop, is only 3" by 2"......totally mini by my standards.
A sneak peek:

Wow, my stitches look ginormous up close. lol And not so neat either. :-)
Have you ever made something in a "mini me" size?

FNSI: Sometimes, you must bow down to the ridiculous!!
So I did:

I saw these footed egg cups at the market...they called to me....loudly.
Sooooooo, I turned them into pincushions with some scraps of fabric, stuffing and hot glue I couldn't not, ya know!
I smile every time I look at them! Can't wait to be the Easter Bunny for a couple of my sewing buds.
It's still early, what else can I do. Hopefully there will be a part deux!
