Week 12 of 2017 and update

Can you believe we are 12 weeks into 2017 already? Time does fly.

First the update:  My sister didn't have cancer!!!! Wooooo and hooooooo Can I get an amen?

 My granddot drew the bunny and picked out the colors. She loved it when she saw it finished.
The toilet paper's original intent was to represent the fact that I am the only person in my household the replaces the spent rolls. Seriously...hellooooooo. The day I was to stitch it, a second meaning came to light.....crappy people.

The hate these people have, the the entitlement they feel to bash anyone who thinks differently than they do, or even has the appearance of not fully supporting their agenda, astounds me no end. How dare anyone have their own thoughts...oy. And people think it's the conservatives taking away freedom....eeennnnnhhhhh...wrong answer.  Getting down off my soap box.....for now.

My MIL wanted to paint with celery with my grand(her great grand) so we finally did.

Everybody got involved.....4 generations got busy with some celery and paints.

Turned out better than I thought and a good time was had by all. Then we ate too much food. LOL

Looking ahead to week 13:

Started this to highlight my week of dealing with opinionated internet trolls. There is a way to have a conversation with someone that doesn't put them in defense mode. It would be nice if they treated people like they think they do and how they want to be treated.

What ever happened to: 

Manners?

Passionate, yet civil, discussion?

Letting other people have differing opinions?

Not going bat crap crazy when figuring out other people don't think like you and you aren't the center of the intellectual universe?

Soap boxing without grandstanding?

Kindness?

Being factual instead of emotional?

Acknowledging that there is real evil in the world and wasting your energy calling out trivial stuff helps evil win?

I did say "for now" with the soap boxing. LOL

What is good in your life right now? No matter how small, no matter how big, let's spread some joy!

And yes, if you need that joy right now, just ask for a little sunshine from me and I will try and make it happen. I must warn you, my dot thinks that I make things worse when I try to be comforting. It could just be our dynamic, but you have be warned.  LOL

Finally, completely, done!

The last of the nightstand got finished today...a new hole drilled for the knob. The hubs said I needed to coat the drawer sides, so I did that. Now, it's official and will be put back in my room, minutes from now!!

Night Stand Progress

I'm getting closer! The primer is done...two coats. I used a sponge instead of a bristle brush. I may brush the final coat.....We'll see.

I am letting this dry over night then I will do a light sanding with some 220 grit paper and then ..eeeeeee....apply the burnt peanut red!

As you can see, the primer looks a little pink.

Here it is next to the final color. It's gonna be awesome!!!!

My spackle technique needs some serious work and I think I kept the drips to a minimum. I just hope there is no green showing when I'm done. LOL

I think I will be picking out a new knob too. The little white ceramic is nice, but I am leaning toward a brushed/antiques nickle cup pull.

Something about the size of the fourth one from the top in the middle but more antiquing looking like the very top one. I'll take the drawer with me to the hardware store and see what looks the best.

Oh noooo, That means I have to drill two new holes.......

Who's with me?

This week I am entertaining the mil and making tissue covers and desserts for 26 for a Ladies' Luncheon on Saturday.

Next week, ahhhhhh, next week I am doing two things for me!!

First, I am going to make a muslin of this pattern. I satrted another one several weeks ago, but I just didnt' feel like messing with yoke alterations and junk. Lazy daisy. I hope I look okay despite the fact that 'willowy' I am not. :-)

I have always enjoyed the look of a cute shirt dress and making this pattern will help me practice my darts and work on some classic tailoring skills. I will be using view C but I will probably make the longer sleeves since winter is a comin'. I will be using only one color too. Probably. Maybe.
It's been awhile since I've sewn an everyday item for myself...wish me luck!

Project two: say it with me: burnt peanut red. I will paint my night table. It's a whole new skill set and I can't wait!! I have the paint, the primer and the tools..eeeeeeeeeeeeeee I am so excited to transform my bedroom from muted, mellow green tones to red and white cottage style!!!
I just might even make my own padded headboard....boo and ya!!!

Paint my night stand. I know, I know! I am a sewista, not a painter so this is gonna be a new and exciting adventure for me! I will be posting my progress as it happens.

Now, do I keep the little porcelain knob or get something new? Maybe a brushed nickle finish? 
One step at a time, I finally found a paint color I like.
Now, to learn how to paint, properly, today!!!  LOL
And for the record, I would LOVE my closet doors to look just like the big, red picture!! 
Talking the hubs into a red room, that is going to be a challenge....I am soooooo up for it!

It's Cherry Blossom Time

My daughter is in to all things oriental ( I'm told that term is passe`) She's been wanting some wall art and today it finally happened!!
Ms. Pearl came over and taught Sophie a few things about painting and next thing ya know, a wall mural is born!!
