April Showers MugRug Blog Hop!!

Welcome to day three of the April Showers Mug Rug Blog Hop.

Erin at Sew at home Mummy is our cheerleader for this hop!

April may have showers that bring us the flowers that bloom in May, but I never think of rain...I think of my wedding anniversary. This year is a biggie......25!
I know, right.......forever, in the blink of an eye.
We have had our ups and downs, thank The Lord, more ups than downs.

I used some sweetwater fabric and found all the 1988's I could to surround this embroidered block. I got the hands pattern on etsy from becgroves and added the dates in my poor handwriting.

A tiny bit of handquilting around the flowers and it was done.

Here are the other blog hoppers....
April shower them with a little hopping around.
A few of them even have giveaways!

Fun mail!

Big giant thanks to Karen and Amy!!

Amy sent me this lovely b-day postcard (while in Texas for work).
It's great to be remembered....just like the Alamo!.   :-)

Karen made some mugrug love.....and I am not the only one to get one either...she was a secretly busy little seamstress. Is it not sew kewl?!

I also got a jacket, that I may return. It's wonderful, but big...I'll have Denise look at me in it before I decide. I should've ordered it a day earlier before they ran out of the size I should've gotten. Live and learn......

Finished Files--mug rugs and coasters from fnsi

Well, it took a little bit of time, but I finally finished the items from my Friday Night Sew In.
(check my side bar for more info)

4 tag shaped mug rugs using a modified sweetwater pattern

2 sets of Flirty Fifties Coasters
(I have enough fabric for 4 place mats too.   eeeeee)

I haven't really decided what I am going to do with all of it yet.  I am in a swap and I pretty sure a mug rug will be going her way. :-)

On my to-do list:
1) stocking swap
2) spock dish towel...got a request
3) got a request to make a white sock cow (that should pay for the christmas fabric I just ordered )
4) a few gift card holders
5) put up the star trek universe and other christmas decor
6) christmas shopping and menu planning (thinking smoked turkey and tri tip mmmmm)
7) christmas cards

There is probably a bunch more stuff, but this is what I am thinking about the most.

Time to get bizz-ay!

Just hear that jing jing jingling....la la laaaaaaaaaa something, something sleigh ride together with youuuuuuu

October FNSI

I didn't get to do September's, but I was ready to go for October!!

I started out with this pile of fabric for inspiration:

I ended up making three mug rugs with a Christmas flair:
A simple one just for Santa.

And September's Label Crew Project:
Mug rugs that look like tags.

The backs are just the cream with the polka-dots fabric from the pile.
I was hoping to make a Halloween bag, but I am a tad slow and had the kids and the hubs taking up a little of my time too.

All in all, three projects completed is pretty dang good.....at least I think so!

I will be working on the Halloween bag today!! Maybe even two, they look pretty easy.
And doing the quilting on my Christmas Table Runner.
Happy Sewing!

Mug Rug Swap

I joined the Sew Happy Geek international mug rug swap. My partner is Hanne from Denmark.
My package came today! It was filled with mug rug love!!

Chocolates, fabric, buttons, pins and an appliqued mug rug representing Denmark.

Look at the teeny tiny embroidered flowers!  the textured shutters!

Tak så meget  Hanne!!! I can't wait to get it all dirty with use!!
Well, maybe I'll keep it pretty for awhile!

Friday Night Sew-in

I got quite a bit done this go 'round! Yeah me!!

Laid out a baby quilt....it's bold, but I think the parents are bold, so it works!

Mostly, I worked on a mug rug for a swap. It appears I am mailing it a few days late...I got the dates wrong, but it's going out Saturday, oh! that's today!

Pieces being cut and prepped

 The blocks are tttiiinnnnnyyyyyyyyyy

My partner mentioned she would like to make a 'Dear Jane' quilt someday, so I based my blocks on a few from that quilt. I only remember that the applique is called Sarah's Tears.

Front and back pieces...all repros from that period!
Not too shabby, ifin I do say so myself. :-)

Unfortunately, the help wasn't much help and zonked out early.....
and right in the middle of where I needed to walk. That darn cat!!

I hope your FNSI found you sewing your little fingers to the bone!

Can't wait for the next one....I'm sure I'll be working on Halloween or Christmas stuff by then.
.....I hope
......I wish
.....I better be more organized than last year!!

Spring Fling Apron swap

Well, I didn't go with a single fabric or pattern that I had picked out. LOL

None of what I had spoke to me, but I saw this fabric and went....yep!! This is the one!!

I call it frankenapron because it's a mishmash of elements from several different aprons. I kinda like it!!!

Now, to make this pattern into one that fits boobalicious people that are curvy  round and tallish. :-) (yeah, I mean me  hahaha)

Front and back views of the mugrug that is going with the apron to a far off land. :-)

Got to gather a few more 'tuck ins" and then off to the post office I go!

Mug rug??? Huh?

I've learned a new term:  mug rug. What is that? Well, it's part coaster, part mini quilt and all too cool. It's keeps your table top clean and safe and has room for a mug and a snack.
A friend of mine, Amy,  was in a mug rug swap and I just had to know what it was..After I learned,  I wanted one. I wanted one now. I dug up some old fabric and got busy. I got busy three times.
It's practically instant gratification for a quilter. In less than an hour ( for an uber simple one) you have a finished mini quilt. I am liking this!!!
Make yourself a mug rug today! Heck, make one for a friend!! Or two or three.........
